What is CC-CEDICT?

The word dictionary of this website is based on CC-CEDICT. CC-CEDICT is a continuation of the CEDICT project started by Paul Denisowski in 1997 with the aim to provide a complete downloadable Chinese to English dictionary with pronunciation in pinyin for the Chinese characters. This website allows you to easily add new entries or correct existing entries in CC-CEDICT. Submitted entries will be checked and processed frequently and released for download in CEDICT format on this page.

Discussions about CC-CEDICT and related projects can be found on the Chinese dictionaries discussion group. New versions of CC-CEDICT will also be announced on this same list as soon as they are released. The format of CC-CEDICT is described on the CC-CEDICT Wiki.

Compatibility versions (no longer updated):
cedict_1_0_t_big5_mdbg.zip - CC-CEDICT in BIG5, traditional Chinese only
cedict_1_0_s_gb2312_mdbg.zip - CC-CEDICT in GB2312, simplified Chinese only
These versions are supplied only for compatibility with old software based on the old BIG5 and GB2312 CEDICT format. It is not recommended to use these versions for new projects as they might have missing entries or incorrect characters due to the limitations of the character sets used.

Please note: this download only contains a CC-CEDICT database file, it does not contain a dictionary program. You will need a CEDICT compatible application to open this file.
